Last week a few bowlers took a trip to Bradworthy Bowling Club. Most of us had not bowled outdoors before and some found it quite challenging, especially when it started to rain. We will not mention the score but thank Bradworthy for a fun afternoon with great company.

2024 Wine & Wisdom

There was quite a turnout for the 'Wine & Wisdom' evening at Kingsley on Saturday. Nine teams battled hard, fuelled by wine, cheese, crisps and the odd pork pie. Eventual winners were visitors to the Club, 'North Devon Numpties' with a score of 45 out of a possible 60, only one point ahead of runners up, 'Neiless' who were also visitors. In third place 'Dunno' actually did know some answers because they came third with 42 points. For more photos of the event click HERE

Players from across Devon descended on Kingsley for today's 'Devon Presidents' match. Although scores were close on two of the four rinks the home side eventually came out on top, winning on all four rinks. Extra congratulations go to George Coxwell, Geoff Herdman, Phil Cousins and George Taylor who also achieved a 'Hotshot' on their rink (all eight bowls closest to the jack). Final Score - Kingsley 98:53 Devon Presidents.

A 'bowlers tea' followed the game, prepared and served by our catering and bar volunteers.

2024 Finals Sunday

A good crowd gathered to witness the Mixed Triples Final at Kingsley Indoor Bolwing Club today. Kingsley veterans Graham and Pam Stroudley were joined by Ron Miller as 'Tin Tacs' taking on 'Rockers' comprising Jill Boucher, Chris Payne and Jack Neville.

Tin Tacs took an early lead but Rockers gradually recovered to draw level at one point. However as the game progressed Tin Tacs pulled clear. Rockers were determined not to give up without a fight and showed their bowling prowess by killing three ends when all looked lost.

Showing remarkable stamina, Tin Tacs survived the marathon match (over four hours) and came out winners! Final Score Tin Tacs 21:16 Rockers.

Our picture is of Graham and Pam Stroudley and Ron Miller, AKA Tin Tacs, receiving their trophies from Club member Don Harris, following the match.

DCLIBA County Finals - Champion of Champions

Kingsley's Sharon Simmons was in action yesterday (17th March) in the DCLIBA 'Champion of Champions' County Finals at Torbay. In the semi finals Sharon was behind 4:15 but won twelve ends on the trot to beat Sue Bywaters (Torbay) 22:19. In the Final Sharon faced 'Potters Star' Nicole Rogers (Exonia) who beat Yvonne Rainer (Honiton) in her semi-final. In a very good natured match Sharon held her own for a while but Nicole then pulled away to win comfortably.

With finalists in Torbay on both Saturday and Sunday, Kingsley Ladies did us proud!

DCLIBA County Finals

Our ladies travelled to Torbay today, to take part in the DCLIBA County Finals. Plymouth ladies, our opposition, had won the competiton for the past two years but after sixteen or seventeen ends the teams were level at eleven all. Unfortunately as the match progressed Plymouth began to pull ahead, eventually winning the contest 22:13. Just getting to the County Finals is no mean feat so a big shout out to Jenny Rhodes, Jude Ford, Allyson Hayes and Jan Hines! Well Done Ladies! Congratulations to Plymouth for the hat-trick too.

2024 Finals Saturday

Our Finals week-end kicked off today with Kelly Silcox and George Taylor playing Peter Dunstan and Jack Neville in the Open 4-Wood Pairs Final. In a tight game Kelly and George looked to be in trouble with two ends to go but picked up four shots to draw level on the 17th end and took the last to win 17:15.

Jim Evans and Bob Withecombe won the Final of the Mens Drawn Pairs, beating Clive Graves and Mike Down 19:17 in another close contest.

In the afternoon Leanne Evans initially raced away from Tina Miller in the Ladies Singles Final but Tina fought back well, eventually only losing 23:17.

George Taylor was in action again in the mens singles, beating Don Harris 21:12 and Peter Dunstan and Jack Neville made a second appearance, this time in the 2-Wood Pairs against Ken Pike and Ray Teape. Jack looked to have taken the match to an extra end, striking the jack into the ditch on the last end to hold two shots. However with less than a metre to play with, Ken Pike delivered a perfect pressure bowl taking shot and the match 15:12.

With Bacon butties, tea and coffee on tap, a large collection of spectators enjoyed the day. Master of Ceremonies, Richard Dewberry thanked everyone for attending and made special mention of Competitions Secretary Richard Hines for a well organised set of Competitions. He also praised the Kitchen and Bar staff for making sure everyone was well fed and 'watered' and President Graham Stroudley for making the presentations.
